One patient had recently moved to Atlanta from the Boston area to live with his sister whose cancer had returned. Due to the move, the patient lost his job – and his insurance coverage. Since the patient is HIV positive, his medication is crucial to his wellbeing. He had been enrolled in the Massachusetts HIV Drug Assistance Program, but his coverage had lapsed after the move.
Our advocate and the patient rallied together and were able to quickly get him enrolled in a free drug program for oral treatment of Genvoya through Gilead Advancing Access using Atlas. The patient’s medication was soon on its way to his current residence in Atlanta, where it will continue to be sent until he returns to the Boston area. When our advocate called to notify him of the approval, you could hear the relief in his voice!
