Disease/diagnosis: Neuroendocrine carcinoma
Drug(s): Opdivo and Yervoy
Program(s): Bristol-Myers Squibb Access Reimbursement Support Copay
Cost covered: $23,446.92
Thank you for not giving up on me. I can’t begin to tell you how it feels to have this burden lifted from me!
A patient who was undergoing treatment for Neuroendocrine Carcinoma, a rare type of cancer that begins in the cells, matched through Atlas Navigator to a copay program that would be able to help with the treatment infusion costs. However, she had international health insurance, which caused issues with completing enrollment since the international insurance was being uncooperative. One of our advocates continued to follow up and was finally able to find two potential reimbursements for the patient totaling almost $25,000.
But the insurance company was still proving to be a roadblock – and since they didn’t have all the necessary documentation from the insurer, they weren’t able to complete enrollment in the program.
The advocate didn’t give up. She contacted the foundation directly hoping to find a solution, who suggested another method to submit the application. It worked – and the patient was approved for a total of $23,446.92 in reimbursements!
When our advocate first called the patient, she had just returned from treatment and wasn’t feeling up to the call, so the patient’s sister put her on speaker. When they heard how much the foundation was helping, they both couldn’t stop laughing with joy and relief, thanking her repeatedly! The call left the patient feeling renewed, giving her the energy that she didn’t have post-treatment.
