Months-Long Persistence Pays Off

February 2023
Patient Advocate: Heather Hunter
Elderly woman holding hands with caregiver

Disease/diagnosis: Rheumatoid arthritis

Drug(s): Remicade

Program(s): Janssen Free Drug Program

Cost covered: $9,057

You saved my life. I never could have done it without you helping me and would have given up on the treatment. You are a true treasure!

One of our patients suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and without her Remicade treatments, the pain becomes unbearable. Because she is unable to afford the treatments herself, she was enrolled in the patient assistance program with Johnson & Johnson last year. However, Janssen took over supplying Remicade free drug as of the first of the year. The program had been overwhelmed with patients and it was nearly impossible to get representatives on the phone.

After months of never-ending hold times and constant runaround with the program, the patient was ready to give up all together. But our patient advocate kept encouraging and reassuring her that they were going to get this approved one way or another. It took several months of phone calls and emails, but our advocate finally was able to secure the approval, order the medication and had it waiting for her at the infusion center for her upcoming date of service – all free of charge!
