Atlas Health Successfully Completes SOC 2 Examination

Achievement further solidifies the company’s commitment to securely processing sensitive financial data

June 24, 2021

SEATTLE, Wash. – Atlas Health (Atlas), the leader in medical financial aid for vulnerable populations, announced today it has completed its System and Organization Controls (SOC) 2® examination involving a rigorous third-party audit of the organization’s design and controls for security, availability, and confidentiality standards. The achievement demonstrates Atlas’ role as a pioneer in philanthropic reimbursement as well as its ongoing commitment to securely helping healthcare providers manage and streamline their patient financial assistance programs.

Developed by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the SOC 2 audit focuses on security, availability, processing integrity, confidentiality and privacy of SaaS and other technology applications or platforms. The audit completion is a confirmation that controls are in place in accordance with AICPA trust services principles and criteria at a specific point in time.

In 2020, nearly 92% of all breached patient records were exposed as a result of hacking and IT related incidents, as healthcare cyber attacks jumped a staggering 45% in the final two months of the year. It is vital that health systems of all sizes and specialty providers, including oncology and infusion centers, assess the security posture of their vendors to ensure that patients’ protected health information remains safe guarded.

Atlas’ proprietary AI-powered technology integrates with provider systems to identify and match eligible patients with the appropriate foundations and programs that cover patients’ medical payment responsibilities. This minimizes providers’ exposure to patient bad debt and helps them to achieve their mission to provide community care. Atlas recognizes that data security is critical throughout this process, and sought the SOC 2 audit completion as a category pioneer to provide assurance to provider partners that its solution meets essential security standards.

“Health systems are increasingly the targets of malicious data breaches,” said Ethan Davidoff, founder of Atlas Health. “Achieving SOC 2 audit completion is a testament to how seriously we take our responsibility as their trusted partner. We will continue to invest in security and data privacy measures to mitigate risk for our enterprise clients and their patients.”
